In this hour session, Emmie Elliott will be sharing some of their stories as a blind student whose blindness was overlooked by the education system growing up, as well as their experiences now as an adult college student. They’ll also be sharing how students and professors alike can overcome their fear of interacting with other disabled students, considerations to keep in mind within inter-abled relationships, and how to ask the right questions when wanting to support your disabled friends and students.

Non-Traditional Blind Undergrad. Biology Major, ANB & Natural Resource Management Minors

Carroll University

Emmie Elliott Leservoisier is a non-traditional blind student approaching the end of their second year at Carroll University. As an older student, returning to an education after over a decade has allowed Emmie Elliott to compare the differences in accessibility within school systems in the past and the present, as well as how students and professors interact with disabled students in day-to-day life. They’re a lover of animals, biology, their 10-year-old service dog, and their French husband. You’ll often hear them laughing and finding the silver lining to their disabilities, as well as asking far too many questions about science as their curiosities know no bounds.
